Intelligent Connector Modules Save Time and Space

With module connect, igus demonstrated at the 2017 SPS IPC Drives the concept of a novel plug-in connector for the connection of electrical cables, fibre-optic cables and pneumatics. Thanks to the modular system, an individual plug-in/separation point can be easily configured as a module from several plug housings. module connect can be mounted behind the e-chain, between e-chains or directly on the switch cabinet and is used wherever a large number of cables are plugged into the smallest possible space.

In addition to reliable, tested energy chains and flexible cables, igus also offers ready harnessed complete systems under the name readychain. To make the connection of cables even easier, the motion plastics specialist has now developed a novel plug-in connector. With module connect, plug-in modules can be individually configured using the modular system. Here, a housing can be equipped with up to four different plug inserts. The housings are then joined together, allowing almost unlimited module variations in individual width and height. Accessories such as mounting plates, label carriers, locking elements and various strain reliefs allow module connect to merge into a complete chain plug-in module. "Due to the flat housing design, module connect saves a lot of space and enables a high contact density for every application," emphasises Christian Stremlau, Head of readychain & readycable at igus. Another advantage: Only as many plug inserts as actually needed are attached. The connector modules can be adapted to the filling and geometry of the respective energy chain in one or more layers. "This enables ideal cabling in terms of function and design for every application," continues Christian Stremlau. For module connect, there are a variety of application possibilities, such as at the chain fixed end or moving end, between two e-chains or for the insertion of cables in terminal boxes or switch cabinets.

readychain: tested reliability from a single source

With the readychain product range, customers save time on harnessing as well as assembly, especially for long travels and heavily loaded multi-axis systems; above all, this offers the customer predictable costs. All moving components were developed, tested and coordinated in igus' own test laboratory spread over a floor area of 2,750 square metres. With readychain, customers receive a complete reliable pre-assembled system from a single source, directly from the manufacturer and with a guarantee. At the same time, the number of suppliers and orders can be reduced by up to 75 percent, while storage and process costs are avoided. For product and service, the customer receives only a single order number per product group. igus manufactures the readychains in twelve factories across the globe and delivers them virtually worldwide, thanks to the sophisticated logistics.
